Told You Sports and Video Games Had a Lot in Common
There’s a great article up on Next Generation about the famous Street Fighter III match between Daigo and Justin wong, specifically the famous YouTube video of their fight. Which is, specifically, an article that was a originally published in Edge Magazine (UK), so they unfortunately don’t list the author. The piece does a great job in helping someone who’s not incredibly informed about the game (such as myself) appreciate it’s intricacies. The same way that a great piece of sports writing will help you understand even Byzantine games like Baseball. It also links to a video of the full fight, which you see in completely a new light after reading the article.
Thanks for this, it was good to see the entire video at last. Love the taunts… anyone want to go on a field trip to that arcade in Chinatown??
I briefly thought abut making a Big Game out of Street Fighter… two people in a room and people could message them over the internet directing them how to fight their opponent. And of course the game would be broadcast live over the internet so those giving commands get to see the fruits of their orders.
Sounds like the ending of the Chocolate War…
