Adam Parrish, a professor of programming and digital poetics, stopped by to talk about interactive fiction. Having recently had his own piece of ‘IF’, Earl Grey (co-written with Rob Dubbin of the Colbert Report), place fifth in the Interactive Fiction Competition, Adam describes both the best and the worst things about the genre. In the second half of the podcast we talk about the use of language in games, how Animal Crossing gets it right and Mass Effect gets it wrong, and if it’s legitimate to talk about games as ‘texts’.
