Greg Costikyan has compiled a list of who he believes to be the most influential game designers (across all mediums) over on Play This Thing.

Seems like he did it off the top of his head, and he admits that it’s North America-centric, but it’s already being extended in the comments. There’s one name that should be familiar to all of us, and a couple of omissions that I can think of. For instance, why have Hideki Kamiya but not Shinji Mikami? Where are all the athletic designers, like Dr. James Naismith, who created Basketball?

Whatever it’s deficiencies, it’s a fun exercise and everyone should jump in with their own contributions!
