Designing the New Slot Machine

I meant to post this a while back but have been swamped. The article is basically about how slot machines are the money makers for casino but are mainly played by older generations (think Baby Boomers). So the dilemma is how do you make the slots more appealing to younger people? Well, that’s where video games come in.

I think what all the people in this article are overlooking is that people gravitate towards slot machines as they get older. That the generation that plays the machines now isn’t going shrink as Boomers die off, it’s just going to be replaced. Adding a little bit of skill-based gameplay isn’t going to draw younger crowds, because they’ll still be more attracted to actual skill-based games. As they get older though, they’ll look for less stressful ways to gamble, namely slot machines.

If I’m wrong though, this might be a strange rebirth for the arcade scene!
